Careers at Maxwell Labs

BUILD THE FUTURE
OF COMPUTING.

Maxwell Labs is a team of physicists, engineers, and operators on a mission to eliminate the thermal crisis in AI and HPC. We are early-stage, well-funded, and moving fast. If you want to work on a problem that matters — and do it with world-class colleagues — we want to hear from you.

How We Work

Our Values.

Physics First

Every decision starts with the science. We believe the deepest competitive moats come from understanding nature at a fundamental level.

Move at the Speed of Light

We operate with urgency. The thermal crisis in AI is happening now — we build, test, and iterate fast without sacrificing rigor.

🔬

Rigorous & Honest

We hold our work to the highest scientific standards. We share results openly, acknowledge failures quickly, and learn from both.

🌐

Mission-Driven

Photonic cooling isn't just a product — it's infrastructure for the next era of computing. We're building something that matters.

Open Positions

Join the Team.

Research Scientist — Nanophotonics

R&DSt. Paul, MNFull-Time
Apply Now

Join our core research team to advance anti-Stokes fluorescence cooling at the nanoscale. You will design and characterize photonic thin-film materials, run optical simulations, and collaborate with national lab partners at Sandia and CINT.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Photonics, or Materials Science
  • Experience with anti-Stokes fluorescence or laser cooling
  • Proficiency in optical simulation tools (FDTD, FEM)
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications

Thermal Systems Engineer

EngineeringSt. Paul, MNFull-Time
Apply Now

Design and validate the MXL Photonic Cold Plate for integration with next-generation AI and HPC chips. You will own thermal modeling, prototype fabrication, and performance benchmarking against liquid cooling baselines.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in chip-level thermal management
  • Proficiency in FEA/CFD tools (ANSYS, COMSOL)
  • Familiarity with semiconductor packaging is a plus

Business Development Manager — Defense

GrowthRemote / St. Paul, MNFull-Time
Apply Now

Lead commercialization efforts with DoD, DARPA, and defense prime contractors. You will develop relationships with program managers, respond to government solicitations, and help position MXL's photonic cooling technology for mission-critical applications.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in defense technology sales or BD
  • Existing relationships within DoD or defense primes
  • Understanding of government procurement (SBIR, OTA)
  • Active security clearance preferred

Software Engineer — Embedded Systems

EngineeringSt. Paul, MNFull-Time
Apply Now

Build the firmware and control systems that manage photonic cooling hardware in real-time. You will work closely with hardware engineers to develop low-latency control loops, sensor interfaces, and diagnostic software.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with embedded C/C++ and RTOS
  • Familiarity with I2C, SPI, and UART protocols
  • Experience with Python for data analysis and testing
